Which tests accurately diagnose COVID-19?

What's the plan of action?

1. NAAT Tests:

Nucleic Acid Amplification Tests (NAAT) are the WHO recommended tests that are most commonly being used to test for coronavirus. This test relies on a technique called Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction, or RT-PCR.

Samples of the mucous membrane are swabbed from the nasopharyngeal area and the oropharyngeal area.

In a nasopharyngeal area, a specimen is collected by sticking a swab into nostrils. This process might be slightly uncomfortable but is not painful. In the oropharyngeal area, a specimen is likewise collected by use of a Q-tip-like swab from the throat.

After the sample is safely collected, health professionals use PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) to copy and amplify the viral genetic code if present in the sample which makes it easier to detect the presence of the virus in the specimen. PCR typically involves denaturing the DNA material using heat to separate two pieces of single-stranded genetic RNA. Then, an enzyme called “Taq polymerase” synthesizes two new strands of RNA using original strands as templates. This results in duplication of original genetic material. This whole process repeats in a continuous cycle which then yields an enormous number of exact copies of the original genetic code. Computer software then determines when the number of copied DNA sequences surpass a threshold, indicating whether the coronavirus is present, and at what concentration.

It is a quick and non-invasive test. The kit is mobile and can be used at drive- throughs, airports, marketplaces, etc

The collected specimen needs to be taken to a lab for analyzing the data, and therefore the specimen could be vulnerable to varying conditions in transit, which adds a potential for error in test results.

COVID-19 infection could not be evenly distributed across all areas of the mucous membrane of the nasopharyngeal & oropharyngeal areas. The specimen could be swabbed from a spot that is not yet infected (although the other areas are infected), which could lead to the test result being negative when in fact the individual has an infection.

RT-PCR tests can’t indicate if a person had COVID-10 in the past, nor diagnose if the individual is susceptible to a future potential stronger wave of the virus. The test is purposed for detection of just a present infection.

2. Serology Test

The serology test looks for certain antibodies in your blood. These antibodies are produced by your body in response to viral infections like COVID-19. The serology test  is not proposed to test the presence of the virus itself, but the immune response of your body against the virus.

First, a blood sample is collected through a finger prick. Health professionals then test the blood sample for the presence of two different kinds of antibodies to SARS-CoV-2: (1) IgM antibodies, which are developed in an early stage of infection and (2) IgG antibodies, which show up in the later stages of recovery.

The test is a very accurate marker of antibodies and thereby can suggest a COVID-19 infection. It has a very small margin of error.

The antibodies of COVID-19 infection could be caused by other unknown factors (not just by a COVID-19 infection), therefore it is not wise to use these tests alone for diagnosis of COVID-19. Furthermore, the specific IgM antibodies used in the serology test are produced in the body over a 4 week period. This long duration of antibody production implies that this test cannot be used to identify the COVID-19 patients in the initial stages of infection. Therefore, these tests are better suited to speculate if an individual had a COVID-19 infection or another viral exposure in the past.

Scientists are carrying out research to come up with all sorts of new testing techniques with the goal to increase accuracy of the testing technique and reduce the delay in final test results. At the moment though, the NAAT Test RT-PCR is used as an accepted standard.

What can we offer you in Heal Within™

Heal Within™ is primarily a chronic disease treatment & prevention centre, based on an Integrated & Holistic treatment protocol. Our focus and relentless pursuit is to help chronic disease patients achieve these Three Primary Objectives.

  • Objective 1: Holistic Healing
  • Objective 2: Optimal Immunity & Disease-Occurence/Recurrence Prevention
  • Objective 3: Long-term Wellbeing

To learn the details of the what & why of these end-objectives, and understand why it is crucial that you establish this in your mind first prior to starting any healthcare treatment or prevention program, please go to Lesson 1 – First, Establish Your End-Objectives (if you not already done so).

We use an advanced Integrated & Holistic Treatment approach, by which we diagnose the root causes to the patient’s diseases by specialised tests in all 10 Pillars of Health, and then treat those specific root causes by specialised therapies that induce holistic healing and not just suppress symptoms as done in main-stream medical treatments.

By this protocol, we have consistently helped numerous patients with all forms of diseases (right from Cancer, Heart disease, Stroke, Kidney disease, etc. to High blood pressure, diabetes, skin diseases, auto-immune diseases, infertility & other women issues, obesity etc.;) achieve these Three Primary Objectives.

If you have any chronic disease and not getting the desired positive results from your present treatment, or if you want to optimise your health to prevent occurrences of any chronic disease, or if you want to optimise your immunity for optimal prevention against COVID-19, then just send us an enquiry or come visit our centre and see how we can help you achieve the Three Primary Objectives.

We have both: a comprehensive service in-clinic program, and a DIY-at-home program (i.e. do it yourself at home program).

Our offerings:

  • Education: How to Prevent & Treat of Chronic Diseases (including COVID-19)
  • Diagnosis: Comprehensive health screening for Diseases & their Root Causes (including COVID-19)
  • Prevention: Chronic Disease Prevention Programs (including COVID-19)
  • Treatment: Chronic Disease Treatment Programs
  • Rehabilitation: Post-treatment Rehabilitation & Optimisation Programs (including COVID-19)
